The 12 Steps are an outline to inflict abuse unto others— if not used by an abuser, they can inflict self-abuse and produce PTSD-type symptoms. If they were designed for anything useful, they’d be designed to help a narcissist humble themselves… however, this doesn’t seem to work given the amount of egos, bullies, and tempers in the rooms.
AA is a disgrace, nearly 80 years on and it’s ridiculous faith healing is
still being used by 98% of rehabs. Choose freedom, zero meetings in 90
days!
Did you go to a therapist when you experienced decline into anxiety and
severe depression in AA? I did, a year and a half into the 12-step program.
So my therapist ( a sexual abuse therapist) sent me to a 12-step rehab. (I
prefer to believe that she knew nothing about the 12-steps than that she
wished me ill.) The steps aren’t designed for family scapegoats, or anyone
who is already ego-deflated. Beating your head against the program can
result in suicide.
I got pissed off in rehab and left after a couple of days. That anger saved
me. It drove me out of AA and set me on the road back to emotional health.
It has been a very long haul, recovering from a narcissistic “support
group”.
The psychiatric community needs to be informed about the 12 step programs.
They don’t know anything about them.
