Funny how this guy says AA works for a lot of people out of one side of his
mouth, and essentially says you need to think like he does out of the
other…Notice how he hasn’t (nor would dare) mention how much time or
investigation he has done to back up or warrant such a presentation? Any
organization as big as AA is going to have some scuttling around, but trust
me, I’ve been with them for many years and they don’t as a whole claim AA
or any twelve step programs are the “only thing that will save you”. I’ll
admit right now, even I have left certain meetings and gone on with
another. It’s really a matter of preference. Sadly we have pathetic people
like this pitching their opinions constantly in a negative “gear” because
they are actually not happy to begin with. Have any of you had a
rebellious teenager that won’t listen to you, or somebody that has their
mind shut down into their own little world? Read the the above section
where he states…”This is a video on my beliefs”…You know I wouldn’t
bother with such losers normally but they cross a line when they reach over
the fence and try to bad mouth somebody else’s beliefs about what has
possibly saved them. Why not just get on with your own recovery Trevor?
Obviously you’ve had some trouble with substances, etc., lets hear what’s
working for you! Yeah, didn’t think so..probably the only thing working is
the hole under your nose.
It’s nice to see people speaking out against this filthy cult.
Trev… you misunderstand AA. You have it wrong that AA tells people they
can’t recover on their own. AA doesn’t tell anyone anything. It is a
voluntary program with suggestions. If you the problem, they have the
solution. The problem is that you can’t stop drinking when you start, and
when you are stopped you can’t stay stopped. If you don’t have that
problem, then you don’t need the solution. If you do… highly unlikely
that you can recover on your own.
This guy is an ignorant, contradicting, angry troll.. AA has saved millions
of people’s lives. If you go to a meeting, you’ll hear compelling stories
of people who started at the bottom and now have made something of
themselves. Like the guy says, “it’s not for everyone”-BUT IT’S FOR
ALCOHOLICS! Some lucky people can get sober without AA, but a lot them
won’t. Why would you not try a program that has worked for the most
unlikely/”hopeless” of people? If you’re willing to be a little
uncomfortable and do some work with the help of mentor figures who actually
care about you, then you can truly be happy and at ease with your self and
life. AND IT’S NOT CHRISTIAN!!! it’s based off of a HIGHER POWER, which
doesn’t have to be God; it can be the people in the program, the universe
anything bigger than yourself. Having that faith which I never experienced
in life before the program has made me realize that I am taken care of and
can achieve dreams I didn’t even know I had. Glad the guy isn’t going to
respond to comments, because he’s probably turned a few people off with
this nonsense already. The dude is a super dry drunk. Might even put him on
my 4th step! Hah 😉 Good luck alcoholics/addicts, I believe in you XO
Anyone interested in reading about how AA protects it’s members, please
google “A personal letter from Jaroslava Mendez”
I agree 100%, and what’s very damaging is the way most rebhabs and sober
houses embrace AA wholeheartedly and reject any other method of obtaining
sobriety. So when I had my first attempt at getting clean and sober I was
forced into a situation where people were calling my honest critical
thoughts about the program “reservations”, an unwillinness to stop
drugginng/drinking (even though I checked myself in, I wasn’t forced in)
and that I would never get clean without suspending my doubts and to not
trust my own thoughts because I was “sick”. Hmmm…I didn’t like that, to
say the least, but I stayed. I snuck in a book about sobriety without AA, a
big no-no because for the first 28 days at these rehabs they ban any book
which is not AA/NA related, and I got a different perspective.
Treating Alcoholism with AA is like treating Anemia with Leeches.
Your right; AA should not be telling people they are weak and powerless. A
guy had a really good video on here in the past. Lot like this one. He’s
white, kinda thin, young, spoke with a bit of a lisp or accent? For some
reason he removed it. If he’s out there; I hope he places it back on. Don’t
let others influence your mind. Your video is very true and it helps
others. I like Rational Recovery RR by Jack Trimpey. Totally opposite of AA.
Thanks for posting this video.
Say what ever you want about AA, it will not change what it has done for
me. AA is not a cure-all for every thing. I had a drinking problem, tried
to stop drinking many times on my own but couldn’t stay sober.
Started going to AA over 25 years ago and am still sober today. AA gave me
some simple tools to learn how to live life without drinking. I have made
some great friends in AA and outside of AA that never would have happened
had I not got sober.
As for trying to tell other AA members what to do, I don’t. If someone ask
me a question, I try to share my experience, strength and hope with that
person.
AA isn’t for everyone. If you don’t like it, move on to something else.
I am living proof that AA does work.
hahaaha you killed your friend you drunkard- smooth move. You can’t unkill
or unfuck someone so you might as well keep sippin’ on the devil’s brew my
friend…you’ll find no peace or forgiveness in this life and chances are
there isn’t another.
You call AA a cult and then support how great it is for those who need it
wow? Why were you there to begin with? Only you know if u have a drinking
problem. Quit bashing stuff because u make up shit in your head.
The courts in Washington state will mandate A.A. or an equivalent and if
you dont go to the meetings you will be sent back to jail. It’s sad but
that’s how it is in this state.
This guy may have been more of a problem drunk than an alcoholic. Some
people realize that certain things are wrecking their life and are able to
quit, Where an alcoholic tends to forget after a period of time the mess he
created when under the influence of a chemical and without spiritual help
will be unable to stop. AA is just one alcoholic helping another. Judge AA
by the program not the people in it.
You are exactly right in saying they’re a cult. There is always a guru in
charge and they want to tell you how to live your life. Also, if someone is
not begging money from you they’re trying to get into your pants (13th
stepping). They are some of the most self-righteous sinners who love to
tell stupid war stories about getting drunk and the crazy things they did,
and everyone laughs. These stories I do not find amusing, but some of them
I wouldn’t have told! I also agree people shouldn’t be court-ordered to go.
I went for 10 years and got sober AFTER I quit. If you have a slip you
don’t tell them because they will crucify you. Who needs them? If you’re an
alcoholic you have enough woes.
AA and NA are worthless. I know this from experience. RU is the TRUTH.
I love your video man. I am an AA member. I was forced to go because of
the family court. I was so pissed off that they forced me to go to these
meetings just to see my son. My sons mom moved out of state and I don’t
ever see him. I have a drinking problem and for me personally, Alcoholics
Anonymous has been the only thing that has worked for me. Not at first. But
I kept an open mind to it just like I do with videos like yours and I
respect your understanding that some people really do benefit from AA and
it has nothing to do with any certain religion. Believe it or not…I know
Christians who don’t like AA because it allows the alcoholic to choose a
god of his/her own understanding, This notion was huge to me because I am
not a Christian. Not an Atheist. An Agnostic at best. At the end of the day
just a drunk and AA has helped me. QUESTION EVERYTHING!
Thank you. I did enjoy your video very much. You are obviously right that
many people are able to stay sober without A.A. And it is a shame that
A.A.’s philosophy has been distorted by it’s members to include
condemnation of those who would try to sty sober outside of A.A. As they
say, ‘This is not Well-People’s Anonymous’. No one should be made to attend
meetings against their desire to do so. Especially since ‘desire’ is the
only requirement for membership. With no desire to be there, it’s no wonder
so many people are angry with A.A. Does the legal system send people to
church against their desire to be there?. The idea of 90 mtgs in 90 days is
not in ‘the program’ of Alcoholics Anonymous or mentioned in the book as it
was written by the founders. However, the idea of A.A. as a cult is not
true: A.A. has no charismatic or enigmatic leader who imposes physical or
mental authority. A.A. makes no attempt to criticize society or remove it’s
members from the dominant culture in which they reside. A.A. owns no
property and makes no attempt to seize or control it’s members finances.(or
even learn their last names). What really defines a cult is a level of
commitment that exceeds traditional religious requirements in terms of
personal sacrifice of it’s members as imposed by an all-powerful and
controlling central leader. A.A. has little resemblance to an actual cult.
forced too?? lol … Stop crying like a bitch.. ONLY SELFISH People dont
understand AA
Great Video. You are so very right. I stopped drinking and my doctor
called it “spontaneous recovery.” In fact AA told me I would fail because
I am, as they put it, “too intellectually minded,” whatever that means.
Great video; great perspective and thank you for sharing. I am glad to see
more and more people coming out to make it clear that a person does not
NEED AA. It is bullshit and that belief almost destroyed me. congrats on
seven years! Over five here and happier that I ever was going to those
repetitive meetings. AA abuses people. Most AA Members are so brainwashed
that there is no reaching them, but I pray that those who are out there
dying because they are convinced that they cannot do it without AA find
freedom and find a way out of that sick thinking. If AA was decent, they
would be happy that people CAN and DO get sober all the time without AA,
they wouldn’t drill it in to people’s minds that they NEED AA. The
statistics actually back up that more people actually get and stay sober
outside of AA than they do in AA (and evidence backs up that AA is quite
destructive).
This is video is deplorable, yet laughable at the same time. Glad you found
what you were looking for though. AA saved my life and I’m very happy with
where I’m at.
Thanks for your views. I have been going to AA for a month but feel it’s
too rigid and takes away all personal responsibility in recovery. There are
many solutions, not just AA!
Just thought I would mention, to people who do not like A.A, but still feel
like they need help, there are other help group out there which are not 12
step or faith based. I personally go to SMART meetings, but there are other
good groups out there like S.O.S, HAMS, Rational Recovery etc.
AA. is bonkers lol
When you fall in AA they want you to. And hard
