The uncomfortable truth about why you can’t stop drinking
Can’t stop drinking? Somebody emailed me the other day and they said they were not convinced that my online how to stop drinking program would work.
He told me that he had tried Alcoholics Anonymous and that hadn’t worked. This man claimed he had read countless books on the subject and none of which had worked.
Some he left sinking reviews for.
He told me that he had even tried a private therapist and he failed to get him to quit. So, with that tale of woes about how he just can’t stop drinking out in the open, he challenged me. Tell me, he said, why should I believe your method will do any better.
My answer was short and sweet.
I told him that it probably wouldn’t work for him either.
People have a nasty habit of looking for external solutions to entirely internal problems. When a problem drinker finally gets over the denial and admits that they have a problem.
The next thing they want is a magic bullet to make it all go away. Perhaps there is a tablet they can take or a weekend in rehab will be all that is required.
There is no magic bullet
So many people buy my book Alcohol Lied to Me and skip the first ten chapters or so. Why do they do that? Well, they are hoping that I will have neatly summarised everything they need to know in the final few pages.
It doesn’t work like that.
