I meant to describe more in detail what AA is like so ill do it here. basically every meeting will be different, I go to some small town meetings so we pretty much all just sit at a table, there is an introduction and usually a prayer, and then the meeting is open to discussion. there will be snacks and coffee. anyone may speak but you don’t have to. sometimes a basket is passed around for contributions but you don’t have to give money if you don’t want to. (its better to give though.) chips are handed out to anyone who wants one, sometimes a chip for a 24 hour vow to stay sober, sometimes chips that celebrate an amount of time spent sober. you dont have to take one if you dont want. after everyone is done talking its closed by a prayer and some other mandatory statements. its very welcoming, I have never been to a meeting where I don’t feel I belong. in some bigger meetings there may be a speaker but it not always. some people go to meetings every night, some every week. its all up to you and your desire to get sober. people talk about god a lot, but its made very clear that you don’t have to believe in god necessarily (I don’t) but its about a power higher than yourself. I consider my “god” to be the metaphysical world of spirits and synchronicities. its all subjective, and even if you don’t believe in jack shit its good to attend the meetings and take everything with a grain of salt. there are brochures and books you can read, and if you want you can have a sponsor. a sponsor is basically someone whos been sober longer than you have, and theyre open to texts and phone calls whenever you may need them. just go. its worth it.
